P.E.P IV Review
Athletico
Where do you start?! The team were reinstated after not completing their quota of fixtures in the first tournament, beat Shanghai for the first time in their history and lifted the P.E.P Trophy as winners!
Kaká lived up to his reputation by leading the assists ratings and scoring six himself whilst the late signing of Frank Ribéry was inspired.
They will be the first to admit they enjoyed a lot of good fortune but good teams make their own luck and this team proved they were great. The 5 - 2 loss to Shanghai in the return fixture was their only one of the campaign.

Shanghai
Shanghai made a comfortable start but the match against Athletico was the turning point of the campaign. The 3 – 2 loss coupled with the mauling they suffered at the hands of Evangelion straight after, cost them the championship.
They were after all the only team to beat Athletico in P.E.P IV (a 5 – 2 victory in the reverse fixture) and after their ten matches had beaten every team in it.
Their defence though looked shaky and even though Samuel Eto’o broke all goal scoring records and Ronaldinho carried the team at times, Shanghai will need to address their defensive shape if they want to win P.E.P V.

Evangelion
Evangelion can only wonder what might have been. In every one of their matches they looked a class apart! Despite not having any time with the squad prior to the tournament, Ryan Kage put together a team who gelled straight away and a team who dominated every one of their matches.
Ultimately though, poor decisions from the officials, some bad luck and some incredible individual performances from opposition goalkeepers cost Evangelion a shot at the title.
They put in one of the best performances of the season against Carpe Diem and replicated that high level against Athletico, only this time, the result didn’t go their way.
In Theo Walcott, they have a definite star of the future and will come back in P.E.P V with a point to prove.

San'chez
San’chez made an incredible start to P.E.P V and arguably produced their best P.E.P performance to date. They beat FC Fisico, Carpe Diem and Evangelion and ran Athletico close on both occasions.
The only disappointing aspect is they didn’t kick on from their tremendous start and actually lost all five of their second half fixtures. With the points already in the bag though, they were able to finish fourth but they will look at the improvements Carpe Diem made with some concern.
Thierry Henry stepped up to the plate this time and scored 10 goals whilst Freddie Ljungberg produced a string of consistent performances. San’chez proved a lot of critics wrong but will now aim to add consistency to their new found quality.

Carpe Diem
Carpe Diem came into P.E.P IV without ever having won a match in P.E.P before. With their first three matches against Shanghai, Evangelion and Athletico respectively, a good start looked unlikely. However, a narrow loss to San’chez gave them confidence and it was in the second half of the tournament, they pulled off some significant victories.
They scored twice against Athletico, beat San’chez 2 – 1 in the return fixture and took six points off FC Fisico. They finished on level points with San’chez which when you consider that this was only their second tournament, George will look back on his team’s performance with some pride.
The team really seemed to click. Gerrard began to boss things in midfield, Owen looked to have formed a strong partnership with Ibrahimović and Wayne Rooney never stopped running (or arguing). Carpe Diem will really hope to kick on from this.

FC Fisico
FC Fisico have already released a statement apologising to their fans for their performance in P.E.P IV. There’s a lot of work to be done at the club to make them competitive for P.E.P V but they already started making the right noises.
No player is safe and the ‘root and branch’ investigation that Revilo Llessur has promised will review everything from the ground up. The most disappointing aspect for them will be their poor level of performance in most their matches. That said, they did beat San’chez in one match and produced a gritty draw against Evangelion so there is light at the end of the tunnel.
Fernando Torres will have an important part to play in FC Fisico’s revival, as will Silva and Joaquín who will be disappointed by his lack of playing time. If anyone can turn this around, Revilo Llessur can and all FC Fisico fans will hope he can do just that when P.E.P V comes round.
